When I left for the 4 day weekend, CMJUSTO was going to take a test ride in the used Tracker, then Ken posted about who LOVES's their boat - just don't tell your significant other!! - I didn't see a followup post on if the boat is in good shape and seaworthy?

You're gonna think that this is strange, but I'd be more comfortable with an aluminum boat that someone has put epoxy around a few loose rivets than one that was welded.

Ain't shoppin' fun!!!!!!

me!

Yes, you can certainly have too much motor. I don't think that a 75hp Mariner on a 17 footer is too much. Probably a good fit, when the lake is 'relaxing'. I'm not an expert on the hull designs, and when they have changed. Tracker has made some basic improvements over the years on the hull design, but I'm not sure when.

I'm with Scott - epoxy over rivets is necissairly a bad thing. At least someone was paying attention to what was happening and tried some reasonable corrections.

On the several occasions that I have purchased a used boat, the one thing that I look for, more than anything - does the boat/motor look like it was cared for. You can usually tell whether or not it has just been run to death, or little things fixed and taken care of. I'd especially look at some of the electical work to see how it's holding up, and/or been rigged/repaired.

Glad to see that you hung around.

Just remember the line from "Jaws".....

"We're gonna need a bigger boat!"

When you going to sign up as a member? You don't need to own a Tracker product..... Heck, all I've got is an Old Town canoe! We'd love to have you as a "Resident"!

welding on it with the foam still there is a bad thing.the foam is flamable to say the least.it is basically the same foam we put in refer bodies and believe me,it burns hot.to weld it with the foam there is kind of crazy to say the least with the fuel tank there, not pulling the decks up and such.

rerivetting is easier than welding!!

I'm no expert but 75 hp on that boat doesn't sound like too much for it, sounds like a good boat/motor match...... good luck with it, and hopefully you work something out, and remember, as noted in an earlier post, WHATEVER the name on the side of the boat says, make sure it's one YOU are happiest with, be it Tracker, just my 2 cents but the second boat you're looking at sounds a whole lot better

(to me) than the first, good luck and happy shopping! egM

BRUCE:

Hehehe.. Ever take on water without a bilge pump period?? My dad and I were out fishing once and realized that the plug wasn't tight, and we had taken on quite a bit of water.. We didn't have a bilge pump, so he just walked up to the console, fired up the motor and we proceeded down the lake.. He looked back at me and said "Pull the plug." Not knowing what would happen, I was like "WHAT??!?!?" He told me again, so I reluctantly pulled it. Of course, the water was evacuated QUICKLY and I learned another boating trick!

ALL;

I went out to look at that 87 TX-17 again last night, and the guy was a no show.. I told him the night before that I'd be there at 8:30 and he said OK. He wasn't there... A neighbor said "Well I tell ya whut, man, they's no tellin' where he's at... Knowin' him, he's lible t'just furgot about'cha..." Super!! The neighbor said he'd be sure and tell him I was there, so I tried to act a little aggravated/disappointed, and made a few really subtle comments about it being quite a drive out there and stuff like that. ;) Anyway, luckily it isn't really his boat anyway, it's his dad's. His dad is apparently on a fishing trip to Canada right now, and will be back Sunday. I'm gonna make the no-show guy sweat it for a while by not calling him back... He wasn't responsible enough to get MY information, so he can't contact me. I'll call the REAL owner Monday, and set up another time to come look at it... I'll be sure and mention that I'd been there before, and didn't get to... :) Maybe he'll feel bad and cut me a deal! :)

BTW, this guy isn't a kid either... He's in his mid 40's, so he's probably just plain irresponsible...
