My steering has practically seized up on my dual rack & pinion "sealed" steering cables on my '04 Nitro NX882. I thought about torching the stainless steel rods to heat them up and get them freely moving again, but after trying to get them out of the hull (pain in the butt) I'm just going to go hydraulic. Fixing to call Tracker about some. When I Google about this though I mostly see "TeleFlex Marine" as the only brand out there maybe besides Uflex aka Ultra Flex. Anybody else go to hydraulic steering, if so, what brand did you use and why? Future boat owners, pay the extra and go hydraulic from the start. You'll be glad you did from what I hear.
Also, I was told by Tracker that the design was not made for cables exiting the upper part of the fiber-glass boat going to the motor/steering linkage to be altered by a Jack-Plate. The angle changes and the outlet hole they come through is not meant for any alterations such as the Jack-Plate. I think Tracker placed the hole too close to the engine in the first place and therefore doesn't allow enough slack for cables to bend easily putting increased pressure on the inner cables. Hydraulics should take care of this, I hope. I welcome any feed-back on these topics. NitroJo - Bryant, AR
