Yes sir ladies and gents, for only the second time since 1996 (when we had an entire month of January where it NEVER got above 0) Lake Champlain, from Whitehall to Quebec, the depth of the VT islands to the NY channel with it's never ending current, has frozen clear across. The average ice depth is 16", which you can drive a 3/4 ton dually pickup on with a 4 wheeler in the back and a couple of BIG buddies and never bat an eye. It also means that most of the bays that froze first likely have over 30" of ice on them. We won't see ice out until at least mid to late April unless we get a LOT or warm rain very early on! Durn fever!

Scott, I only have so much vaca time, and I need to save it for tourneys. It would be my luck that I would take some of it, and then get the call saying I'm in for the tourneys! Can't risk it. Plus it would be really rude on my part to come out to a second rally and win the first day again! LOL

naaaaaaa

It's not cold yet...

It's cold when Lake Michigan freezes completely over!

been here 18 years...only happened once in that time period!

Down in Mike's "snow" post I pointed out that we set new records this weekend with -30 and windchills that went to -60. Mt Washington was around -80, and you need to wear goggles whenever going outside in those temps less you get frostbite on your actual eyeball and lose some vision in seconds. I went to start my truck this morning and it was so cold that upon getting out, my shoe caught the edge of the plastic that goes around the bottom of the seats, the molding, and the whole piece just shattered!

In Michigan, there's only ONE bad thing that happens when it gets that cold...

The kegs we keep outside freeze!

See that's why you see refrigerators outside in NY. Ain't so much redneck, well maybe a little (LOL) but it's to keep your beer from freezing, NOT to keep it cold. When we used to ice fish, we would put our beer down the hole so it wouldn't freeze. The water temp was about 34, but air would freeze it. And because it was pressurized, it wouldn't freeze until you opened it! Weird huh? LOL

Brucey, don't make me strip down to my silk panties again and start gettin foot loose and fancy free in the frigid air! I will, and I'll send it to you next. Not your state, or even town, just your house! LOL This redneck is just fevered nuff to do it!

If things keep going the way they are it will be the first part of May before the ice even starts to go out.

What the hey give all ya got Rob..I can bearly see the hood of my car now..I here this stuff is in your neck off the woods now anyway..BE safe...

Gee Rob....so is Lake Erie....USCG Cutters are keeping the shipping lane open (or they are at least trying). They had to clear an ice jam under the Ambassador Bridge (aka Miracle Mile)last weekend.

Only open water on Champlain is the channel the ferries keep clear from P'burgh to Grand Isle. They run 24 hours so it doesn't get time to freeze. But if the wind blows hard and ice packs it, then even the 200 foot ferries can't run and that puppy will lock up tight until spring. The ferries would go bust, so they keep a breaker tug handy just for that!

I figured with as cols as it is your neck of the USA it would have froze over a long time ago!
