My wife and I were dock shooting for crappie and doing a little flipping aroung boat houses for bass this weekend on Cedar Creek. One of them #%^@ BIG @#$ yauchts/cruisers/pleasure boat @%#-&!-^*#)*'s came about 25yds from the boat house we were fishing, pushing water like a bulldozer making swells 3-4 ft. There was no way, even with my 101 trolling motor on high, my wife screaming "go forward, go forward" and her trying to hold us off the boat house, that we could keep from hitting it. Those big swells from that *&#)+! ^*+_@% just threw us back into the boat house like we were in a paddle boat. Busted a hole in the cowling about 3" long and 1/2" wide.

Where can I get another one? 2003 Merc 225 EFI

How much do they cost?

Will Insurance cover that?

Hey I might put one of those 300 hp racing cowlings on it, and make it go faster. KENNY

prob. any merc dealer should be able to order you one. Do a google search. Sorry to hear about the damage. We have that same prob. here in JAX. Big boats show little consideration for smaller boaters.

Kenny - Bob G and I had one when we were fishing KY Rally that MADE it a point (at least it seemed that way) to get REAL close to any fishing boat! We were in the middle of the lake fishing a reef-hump and this IDIOT came straight for us and with in 20-30 feet! and then swerved to do the same to another boat!

Sorry on the cowling, do you have the pieces and could you patch it and paint it??

I do believe that the boat is responsible for any damage caused by the wakes. Hopefully you got the number?

I could write a book on my being "waked" by the big boys. The worse was getting swamped by a big cruiser and missed me by about ten feet. It was noisy in heavy wind and I didn't hear him coming up on my six.

I seen a cigarette style boat go between two groups of people in canoes at the Lake of the Ozarks. It was in a no wake cove. Tipped both canoes over. Had to help them ashore as they couldn't get back in the canoes.

You can buy a $$boat but $$ don't buy brains.

New cowls are BIG $$$$ best to see if you can repair and paint rather than get a new one.... unless of course your insurance covers it... My guess would be $400-$500, maybe more...

Mike - The question on the insurance is what is his deductible and how MUCH more then that is it, and how much will they RAISE his rates! Unfortunetly that's the way we all know it works. Heck i've worked on consulting engagement for a few major Ins. companies and a few of them will RAISE your rates if you even CALL asking what would be covered, since they then ASSUME you did have the accident/damage to your vehicle/house/boat!! No Poop!!

Trep, if that happened to me, i'd get a new insurance company..... pronto LOL

Mike

I asked my agent about that and she said that only happened when you call the 800 number to inquire about a claim. Call your agent, they don't want your rates to go up anymore than you do.

Regarding the big boats:

There are several lakes that I just stay away from just because of them. They have no regard for what the poor sob in the 18 footer. Much like the rich blue-haired drivers of the $1,000,000 highway yachts that are buit on Greyhound bus chassis. These people can't back their Coupe de'Ville out of a parking place but they have no fear of getting behind the wheel of those oversized dread-naughts. "Just back 'er up till you hear something crunch, Myrtle".

BMCD may be remembering the price without decals?

I know a Yammie person posted that her's cost her $1200.

Let's just say... if it ain't broke don't BREAK it :).

The math is astounding...

$1000 for cowling

$3000 for lower unit

$4000 for a powerhead

It's almost like the injectors and computer are free when you buy a whole motor :)
