I took my 2015 Z7 out for her first trial run with me. On the way home the hub mounting broke from the axle, right where the welds are. It will be covered under warranty and Progressive covered the wrecker bill, but not what I was expecting on a 7 year old boat with only 100 hours on it. Is this a normal thing for Nitro trailers?

Update. I had a wrecker take back to the dealer, D & R Sports in Kalamazoo. They said they've never seen the wheel mounting plate break from the axle. Good News, they put a complete new axle under it, covered under warranty! Nice to see them really back their product.

Boat trailers take a lot of abuse. So, while I wouldn't say it is expected damage, it does happen. Probably a bad weld that held together for seven years then gave up after a few bumpy roads. Even though the boat only had 100 hours, it doesn't mean the trailer didn't have 10,000 hours of road travel :)

one of my friends had the same problem with his trailer and tracker did not want to talk with him. He asked them about a new axle and they didn’t want to talk with him.

You are a lucky man!. My Z18 was bought new in 2018. Last week I traveled 300 miles across Texas and 1/2 mile from my destination lake the weld at my axle and flange tore apart. No warranty coverage. Progressive covered nothing and said it was wear and tear. BS! $300 wrecker on flatbed. $350 for axle repair. Late on a Sunday afternoon in the middle of no where. This is a lightly used boat with about 100 hours and decent roads. Wonder how many others have had quality issues with the Nitro trailers?????

Now I going to crawl under my trailer and really inspect the welds. Was told that the trailers have only a one year warranty. Had three wheels replaced for excessive rusting the first year. On my own now.

YES, I just had the same thing happen to me!! Progressive did pay for the transport of boat and trailer. I had just put 2 new tires on the trailer and because of the way the weld came apart, had to get a new axle and two new tires, again! All together it was a 1700.00 dollar week!!! THE boat and trailer are Z7 2015 too. Wife/boss was not happy with me, to say the least.

I have resubmitted to Progressive. They reviewed my coverage and verified I had towing+. Maybe they will get it right.

Why do wives get upset with "Us"??? It's not like we wanted this to happen!!! LOL

I have seen this twice in my 15 years of axle/ trailer repair shop/ trailer builder. Both were caused by customer replacing bearings that were not correct for the axle size. They put 1 1/8 inside diameter bearings on 1 in axle spindles. And the break caliper/bracket was keeping the hub square, and put extreme forces in the welded brake caliper bracket. Same result.

Mine came from the factory with the configuration that failed at the flange and axle. The independent shop that replaced it for me said they have seen it on an occasion. This was most likely a defective weld from the manufacturer.

Just had same issue with my LR trailer wheel on 2006 591 trailer. Going 70 mph on highway and felt a shudder. Looked out side view mirror to see wheel come off axle and trailer drop to pavement. Luckily was able to stop quickly, but not yet sure of total scope of repair. Cost $315 to tow on rollback to nearest dealership (53 miles away and Progressive indicated they only cover first 15 miles). Pictures appear to indicate ongoing cracking due to factory weld issue (rust and weathering on metal vs bright metal at axle plate). Is anyone aware of recall or TSB related to this issue?

There is no recall on the axle. I have a 2008 Z7 and my buddy has a 2007 591 both of us had trailer issues. My trailer caliper came loose and locked up against the wheel and trashed the bearings, after all said and done it was close to $750 in parts, I replaced axle myself. My buddy ended up getting the axle reeled at a machine sho. He bought a new trailer from Buds Motorsport.
Good luck on getting the axle from BPS.

Duane
