Just wanted to let everyone know that if they have went to BPS in the last couple weeks buying sale items...CHECK YOUR RECIEPTS! I have busted them twice with sale priced items and not ringing them up that way. I always check mine so it's not a problem. I have talked to numerous friends that all say the same thing....I think it's some kind of new tactic because it has happened to me with different individuals at different times.

Also I wanted to make a point that this years bash at Cinci was terrible! They had people working those cash registers that don't know how to use them. They had limited selection of rods and not ONE 5'6" Pistol grip other than the high dollar rods.

Did anyone else run across this problem?

TEE

Tee, I had the same problem once at the BPS in Maryland, never went back. Plus, I wanted to look at a boat that they had "wrapped up" in the warehouse and they wouldn't let me see it because it wasn't ready for the showroom. I didn't tell them I wanted to buy it. I thought the salesman was rude so I went elsewhere.

I thought I was the only one looking for a good 5'6" rod. Why are they so hard to find? BPS sent me a sales/newspaper thing a couple of weeks ago and they had their BPS IM6 graphite rods in there for a good price, I can't remember what it was now tho. I ordered a couple of the med heavys in 5'6". I'll check but I don't think I have the paper anymore.

I don't why they didn't have more...they usually seem to have a pretty good stock but, this year was different. Also they usually have the Quicksiver oil on sale...not this year. I noticed too all the bin's were FULL of stuff they been trying to get rid of for over a year now. Some good deals but, mostly junk....

TEE

Share some of the same sentiments on the big 'Classic' sale. Quite a bit of 'junk' in the aisles. I bought three combo's (that I'm happy with), but I wanted at least 1 or 2 of them to be medium action, and not med/heavy. Nothing but med/heavy in the bins.

Best deal (for me) at the sale - pointer minnows by Lucky Craft at 20% off. Plus Mac's 'Bait Me' shirt - of course.

Thanks Tex,....the "Bait Me" Lrgmth shirts is the best seller so far too...hope it brings you BIG toads!!! LOL

"ONE 5'6" Pistol grip other than the high dollar rods."

All Star had a half a dozen or so of these rods at the store on Thursday when I was there.....AND they were $25 off.

I did my shopping the week the sale started to make sure I had the best selection, and went back for seminars.

Same here. Drove all the way to Springfield with the idea of buying a Johnny Morris baitcaster. Not even a demo on display. I would really like to at least hold the darn thing in my hand before I plunck down my 100 geiters.

Sooner,...that bummed me out too!!!...Here I've been toting those reels all winter and they don't have any in stock!! We had 4 in Detroit and I was told they had "several"....I had a buddy from Ontario drive over to get 4 of those reels and when I found out our store only had 4 in stock,....guess who got them!!..LOL....I grabbed all 4 and put them away,.....when "Tim" showed up friday morning,..he bought all 4!!! I was going to make sure he left with the 4 he wanted even if I had to drive home and get 4 of my brand new ones!! I hate it when that happens!! We had a bunch of the spinning reels though,...just ran out of BC's!!

(I think the general public is finding out just how sweet they are and even at full price of $160, they can't keep them in stock,..let alone at the $99 website sale price a month ago!.....they were $119 in Detroit!) They are excellent reels.....try one ASAP!!

I agree with the cash register check out. I had one item that they rang up high and I complained. The cashier, could not get any help from the floor, so he went to look himself. Came back and said there was no sign up that the item was on sale. I said, let me speak to your manager. The manager came over and OK'd the deal. I was prepared to cancel my whole purchase which was substantial. I was very disappointed with the selection of certain items also. All in all, I enjoyed BPS very much.

That's nothin'...the guy that told me about his ordeal was the very one I was telling about this "BIG SALE". He goes down and goes thru the line and said "WHOAH" after lookin' at his reciept and determined they overcharged $63.00 and some change! If he had not caught it.....Don't get me wrong...I LOVE BPS too but, if these kinds of things continue...I won't be for long.

Dateline or 20/20 did a show on that kind of stuff some time back. You'd be amazed how often it happens. The biggest culprit....Wal-Mart of course. Sometimes it's intentional, other times not. Somebody merely forgot to put the price reduction into the computer. That's why you should always review your receipt and KEEP them. If a price drops and you bought it before hand, within 30 days the store is legally obligated to give you the difference. Whataya know college is good for something! LOL

In Michigan the consumer is protected from hijacking at the register. If the item rings up more than advertised, the consumer gets the difference plus $5.00 for the hassle.

I had a customer recently who is an auditor for several of the big discount stores checking this very subject. He said that as often as not the mistake is in the customers favor costing the stores major $$$. Of course no one is outraged about that.

In defense of the cashier..They know not what they do..they just respond to what they scan.. Now then as to incoreect charges.. My understanding is you must sell the item for the advertised price even if it is wrong.. Thanks to Walmart Del has new laws that has checkers coming in and checking been tags vs register price for conflict + or -

you are allowed 5 errors per 100 items before you get fined.

I would like to think most are human error and not misleading the customer but think about this IFFFFFF you can get an extra 1% on 5% of the items you sold at a chain the size of Walmart how much extra could you make?

Food For thought.

Rob u are wrong. At Wal-Mart u tell the computer that u have did the price change not it tells u.U must comfirm the price change with a on hand count. If not it dose not change.I think alot of people likes to jump on wal-mart.As far a right prices go i would say Wal-Mart is the bast.

Come on guys. At least you can travel to BPS. I'm out here in California and the only hope I have is to get a new catalog or flyer with a sale price. I have to order something knowing that I will probably be sending it back and eating the freight shipping cost because the little picture doesn't give me any idea what the real color is going to be or the size. Okay, so I'm in the sticks and don't have good tackle shop for 30 miles but BPS has been real good to me. (Although I also like Cabela's). I guess everything is greener someplace else. Just my 2 cents.

Money always seems to be tight with me, so I always check register receipts.....

I don't ever remember being overcharged at Wal-Mart and I shop there a lot.

There is a grocery store here in St. Louis - Schnucks - that will give you the item free if they ring it wrong at the register. Several times, I have found that items were tagged at one price on the isles and came up something else at the register. I've gotten the items free but was told that it was simply that the pricing in the isle was old and not taken down.....

I don't think I have ever found an error at the register in my favor.....

me!

P.S.

If I've wanted a combo that wasn't avaiable in the bins, the people at BPS have always been kind enough to make one up out of rood/reel stick. It happens most of the time for us left-hand crankers!

Scott G, I spent 5+ years in management at Wal-Mart, I'm fully aware of how price changes are conducted. You can go back and run clearance tags with your sign-on and it's an open text format. So some dept mgr can "think" they put an item on clearance, tag as such and then forget to go in and do the price change. Then you have an item tagged as clearance that rings up full price. Happens all the time. We won't even get into how many people in those stores are qualified to use a telzon, or a price gun. And often there are home office initiated price changes and the computer DOES tell you what the change is. Be careful who you say is wrong unless you know who you are talking to. And the gist of my post was that more often than not, it's human error, not intentional. We won't get into ethics about Wal-Mart, because I DO know the skinny.

I seem to have things rang up higher than advertised on the shelves at walmart also. not everything or not a whole lot of stuff, just every once in a while. I guess i'm just lucky!

jd

Well now Rob...The initial thread I posted WAS implying that it IS a tactic that they(BPS) is knowing and willingly doing. If it only happened once or twice..I could see that it's human error but,you have seemed to pass up all those other threads saying otherwise.

I just checked my reciept from my shopping spree at the Houston BPS this past weekend. My savings amounted to $98.98 so I don't think they made any mistakes.
