Caught this by mistake on one of our local lakes, surprised the heck outta me. Senko and 8lb line. Wasn't really long (that's an 18 inch golden rule) but was really fat. 14.9 lbs on my digital scale. I was fishing alone, it wouldn't fit in my landing net, so I had to hand land her. Sorry about the picture quality, it from my camera phone.

Mmmmmm goood... tasty .... You are right about making into "nuggets" and then frying in mix of cornmeal and flour... dip in milk and egg first.... I'm hungry now!

FAT Fish!!

Pete and Greg - How do you filet Pike? We've tried a number of ways in Canada but always get WAY too much of the 2nd row of bones?

Trep try this website I started using this technique this year, its very easy to do and works great. www.dnr.state.wi.us/org/water/fhp/fish/species/NorthernPikeFillet.pdf

Nice pike Smitty......what lake where you fishing?? Looks like it put the fall feedbag on!!;)

I let it go...we need that breeding stock in our local lakes...too many hammerhandles.

If Neely is still in Oxford, then it's just s/e of him I believe.

Trep.... Come up to Wisconsin again.... And, "slum it" (fish with the "neckie"...LOL) and I'll show you both ways to filet a northrn/muskie. However, the one shown in the DNR illustration is the easiest and best for fish under 5 lbs... Bigger ones are better done another way... I'll post a link to that later today...

BTW, a truly fantastic way to prepare a large pike is clean it like a panfish, scale it and gut it, then cut it into "sections" about 6 inches each. Wrap each section in cheese cloth and boil it in Bays spices for fish boil. Serve with drawn butter... You won't believe how good it is...:)
