In an effort to same my duckets for the Michigan trip and to supply the MVM with some fresh Crappie filets, I was gonna take the little boat out today and go up to a TM only lake near my house. Rumor has it (per MikeC) that there was a 4lb Crappie taken out of there recently. I call it the "Grocery Store" lake because I can fill the boat with yummy eaters and there is no agriculture or developement around it since it is a drinking water reservoir. Anyway, I walk out this morning and there is (in my estimation) 10mph sustained, with 15-20 gusts. That's too much for the little boat and my lard butt. I could take the big boat to Anna and limit out because I did it last week with clients (gave them my fish) but I just can't justify $50 in truck gas to get there (you suck Jim C. & Bill:lol::lol: ). Oh well, I'm off tomorrow, I'll wait and see what the weather does.



Here is the Crappie Killer and I can predict it's gonna get a lot more use till gas prices come down!!:

Ha!! Hey now, that little boat has floated me in Florida, Wisconsin, and Virginia for quite a few years. I ain't sunk her yet!!:lol::lol: Did drag her across some ice to get to open water on Lake Pellham and busted the bottom but didn't know it. About 1/2 way across the lake I had water coming over the rear!! Got her to a bank, drug her out, let her drain and beat feet back to the ramp!!:lol: Actually I've had another guy my size in that boat with me before. She rode low but never close to sinking.

Great....now I gotta re-think my rod/reel selection. I AM NOT having a repeat of last year!! For those that don't know, I broke off a lot. THIS year I will have 30 and 50lb braid. I also updated my Senko rod to 10lb and put a JLM spinning reel on a 7'6" Medium action JLM Signature rod. My hookset just went into bullwhip territory. Any other suggestions? I'm trying to keep my gear to a minimum but it is tough.

You dont need 50 pound braid dude. This aint Amistad!!!!



Plenty of people rely on 6lb test up here....its just that I am not one of them I like crossing eyes, seems like they fight better when you make em made on the hookset....



8lb dia/30lb break strength is all you need. I like PowerPro or ExcelBraid. I have MagiBraid spooled up, but that is 6/20 and I am not too fond of it. I will be respooling before you hillbillys get here...lol



You will also need some bullet sinkers and your best game. I want to watch these brown brutes school you again! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA



There should be a bite on almost anything you want to throw though....cranks, spinners, jerks, softplastics, dropshots, etc....so bring what you want....you wont know until you throw! (thats for you CIII)

Actually, I got the 50lb stuff for mat fishing in the Potomac....you do need it there!! I have the 30lb variety also My breaking off last year was not operator error!! I had the right bait in the right place and hooked them up, I just didn't plan on those razor reeds you guys have!! Caught plenty on my dropshot rig with 8lb!! Oh, I'm gonna be ready this year you can take that to the bank!! :lol:
