They say that bad luck happens in three's and I hope it stops there.
1. Last month my truck puked a transmission. A lot of money later and it's back on the road.
2. A week later, my washing machine died. Was 14 years old....so a quick trip to the local Sears and back in business. Free delivery and install.
3. Went to NY state yesterday to pick up a puppy. Was about to leave Oneida, NY and got a call from the electric company letting me know that they read the meter at my camp in southern VT and the door was kicked in. I was 5 hours from at the time. Got home around 7pm, packed up tools, laptop, camera and food. Called the state police with my arrival time since I don't have a phone there and no cell coverage. Got there around 10:30pm. Place was freaking trashed. They smashed a window to get in, unlocked the deadbolt and opened the door for others to come in. They only took a few small items (DVD player, some DVDs (Full Metal Jacket, Jaws, Rocky..)). Took my Crown Royal! They pried my 2 outdoor cameras off of the trees. It all happened on Easter Sunday at 6:54PM. How do I know this?? They didn't see the camera inside....it doesn't look like a camera. The whole thing lasted 9 minutes and I have it all on video. Gave a copy to the officer. I hate theives!!!!
Up to a point, all there was for damage was a broken window. It scattered glass around the whole 20' x 20' interior. They walked out of the door and shut it and the lockset is the kind that is unlocked when inside but still locked from outside. I actually hate them. So...they locked themslves out and instead of coming back in the window, they kicked in the door and now the jamb is broke. The deadbolt part is still functional. I duct taped plastic over the window to keep the big rain drops and snow flakes out!!
Got home around 3:30AM, showered and crashed. Puppy is a Standard Schnauzer...spent her first day with us riding in the truck for about 11 hours. She travels well!!
I'll show the video someday after the case is closed. I checked a nearby camp before I left and found one of the doors opened. Informed the police and the neighbor that watches the camp for the owner. Also informed another camp owner today that they might want to take a ride to check theirs.
