Okay, I ord'd my spare tire and mount today, and I got to thinking I might wrap one layer of some thin (1/8") sheet rubbber around the trailer rail before attaching the spare tire mount. Thinking it might absorb some road shock, plus curtail future rust from metal-to-metal contact. Anyone ever done this?

I wouldn't suggest it, too many potential problems with it holding dirt and moisture and possibly letting your mount come loose. It'll just rot anyway.

Probably take awhile for the rubber to rot, but hadn't thought about dust/moisture collecting between the rubber/ trailer rail/tire mount. Thanks for the tip :)

Mine has a falt plate with 4 bolts...it doesn't hold water...at least not that I've seen:)

Just bolt it tightly to the frame and you should have no concerns. Trying to make a gasket buffer of sorts will let vibration happen and do more harm than good. Just my .02!

Thanks for all the input :) . I think I'll forget using the sheet rubber. :)
