Looking for a tiny roof mounted unit to go on my truck camper shell (topper) for when I'm camping during 2 day events. Anyone have a recommendation? Camper shell stays off unless I'm making that kind of trip.

All the best,

Glenn

I put one of these on my brother's 26' Maxum, but they're a little pricey:

(FWIW - I know my bro paid about half what West Marine is showing.)

For an inexpensive alternative, I have a buddy at our hunt property that uses one of these:

You might want to check if the shell is strong enough to carry the weight and wind load one would put on it.

Dan J.,

Thanks for the responses. I've found a few at a camper shop that are about half that price and quite a bit more BTU's. I was looking for something quite a bit cheaper. I could have bought an in-bed camper for $800 (with AC), but decided I wanted a regular camper shell ($300), and I was going to "add the AC later". Well... the first choice might have been the cheaper route to go, but I really didn't want to have to store that big in-bed camper either. Thanks for the responses though. I appreciate the assistance.

lamar,

Great point - I hadn't thought about that. The camper shells normally have extra thick re-enforced roofs, but the "wind load" you spoke of raised some eyebrows. I thought it would be sufficient, but after your comment, I have to look into that further. You might have just saved me from making a costly mistake. Thank you.

All the best,

Glenn

One other simple idea is to add a 12V fan to the roof vent (if equipped) to keep the heat evacuated and air circulating. They're cheap and darn productive. Good luck! ;)

Good idea, but in TX,I need AC! It gets pretty darn hot in that thing!

All the best,

Glenn
