Any thoughts on how to get an old aluminum boat to shine again. Had a boat repairman tell me he had some stuff you mixed(diluted) with water that you sprayed on, let sit a while and washed off and it would work. He says it is safe for carpet also.

Thanks!

i think there is a product which is call sharkhide ?? i think this is a protectant but they probably have the cleaners too. www.sharkhide.com ?

West Marine makes an aluminum cleaner that supposed to

brighten dull aluminum. I was going to try it on my old

PT 17 but sold it. I think aluminum cleaners that are

actually going to work are going to be some strong stuff,

like an acid based product. You might want to wait for

some others that know more about the nature of these

cleaners and the precautions to take.

I bought some metal polish at the boat made for Team

X-Treme. They demoed it on an old oxidized pontoon and it seemed to work real good. To do an entire boat would require a buffer. They say a 4oz.($8.50) bottle will do my 18 footer. Call Team X-Treme 405/670-1566.

Or the other side of the story. I am currently read Doug Hannons book "Big Bass Magic". He writes that his bass boat is camouflaged because "de bassus can see dem sparkles a mile away" and I'm sure a highly polished tin boat crusing through the water will alert the bass of your presence like a shinning a mirror on the water. Still I miss the shiny new finish.

You know with all the people here "shining" their aluminum, the forst thing I thought of was how was it going to effect the fish? It may seem silly to some, but I would keep the bf the boat as dull as possible. I can understand the want and need to keep your vessel looking as good or as new as possible, but I certainly wloudnt want that to ffect my fishing!

You know, I think I will keep it dull until I decide to sell it. That may be a while though since it fishes so good and it is paid for.

dem basses love dem sparkles! but one BIG sparkle might be WAY too much. It probablly raises the water temp 5 deg's where it is reflecting! just teasin.

i think the alum boats look just fine whether they shine like new or not. the natural dulling of the finish looks better to me than the bright shiny stuff. you don't want your boat looking like an aluminum pie pan do ya? when it is shiny it will show every nick and scrape. the tracker logo and racing stripe in contrasting color is what people look at. i'd be glad that i didn't have to shine it up every 3 wks. sounds like a lot of work too. my .02.

That's why ya' just do the sides, front and transom. I can pretty much bet ya'the shine won't hurt their beedy little eyes...dont ya' know...DEM BASSUS LUV SPARKLES! Seriously though...don't you think that these glass rigs with 500 clearcoats and sparkles don't give reflections?
