I used Mothers Aluminum polish on the topside of the new boat, it came out pretty good.

Here are a couple of pics. I haven't finished the one side, so that pic shos a little before and after.

Can anyone suggest some wax to use over this now. I know that the SharkHide looks like a good product, but I think I'll just use wax for now. Is Auto wax acceptable ?

Bob,

Man that looks GREAT! If my boat looked that good I'd be afraid some tough gang of Gar would try to mug me and steal my wallet.LOL

Seriously, I was looking around in the parts dept. of the RV dealership where my daughter works, and found some aluminum polish and wax for Airstream travel traliers. I didn't but any at that time but plan to try it out. It requires an electric buffer. Did you use an electric or an armstrong buffer?

I'll get the name of the polish and get back to you.

I did most of it by hnd, not too hard really. Then I tried my Porter Cable random orbit sander. I took a wash cloth and wrapped it around the rubber pad and taped it to the body of the sander to keep it on. It worked a lot easier, but I don't think it did much better of a job. I'm gonna drive by the dealer over the weekend and look at the new ones, I don't think they look this good.

The polish, Mothers, was like $3.97 at Wal-Mart, also found it at Pep Boys for a little more, although they had a bigger container also.

How long it stays that way is the question, that's why I wonder what wax to use.

I know cars better than boat and I have spent plenty of time polishing my Tin Boat (WHO SAYS THEY DON'T SPARKLE) You can follow it up with a good Carnuba paste wax and it will help. But alas sun and water will make it fade..But the good news is next winter you can polish it again and have a another new boat..You may want to invest in an electric buffer they are fairly cheap at Wally World and will speed things up quite a bit.

Too bad you can't spray a coat of clear lacquer (sp?) over that! I think you're just gonna have to keep it under a good coat of quality wax.

Got you tin guys "POLISHING" your rigs now, might as well go get GLASS!! Next, you'll be complaining about waterspots, LOL!!

It's only because you glass guys keep yappin' about how dem bassus luv sparkles(c).

A true fisherman will try anything to up the odds of success. Why polish that tin? He's now got one great big sparkle!
