About 6-8 months ago, my uncle from Michigan passed away. He was in his late 70's and had cardiac problems. With the distance between PA and MI, I only ever got to fish with him a few times. When we did see each other, we always compared hunting and fishing stories and promised that we would have to get together to hunt and fish more.

In any event, my aunt traveled here to PA to visit this weekend. She called when she got in to her hotel and left a message at my house that she had a present for me. Today, I inherited all of my uncle's fishing equipment. While there are very few things for bass fishing, the amount of things for muskie and salmon fishing is unbelieveable. In fact, a lot of things I have no idea what they are.

What is really interesting is the antique things that I got. I was given a Pfluger bait casting reel that is in it's own leather pouch and easily 30-40 years old. It has line on it that looks like braided blue and white twine. I also have what looks like an all metal casting rod with a reel similar to a fly reel. It's really odd looking. I also got a han-made bamboo fly rod with an old automatic fly reel.

All I can say is while it's an honor to get his fishing equipment, I wish that I would have just made a better attempt to have taken the time to use it with him while he was alive.

Don't pass up an opportunity to spend time with older friends or family. You never know if you will ever get to do it again.

Hey Brian,

Sorry about your uncle your Uncle.

I know what your talking about though. I've been trying to get my dad in the boat since I got it last year. I have only fished with him once in the last 10 years. He always has one lame excuse after another. I don't know why, we used to fish all the time. Ever since my parents divorced in 91' and my dad re-married in 92' it's like pulling teeth to get him to do anything. Now he has two grandson's that love fishing and he'll never know what it's like to fish with them....HIS loss! You don't need to hear my problems.

Anyway, you got yourself some really cool stuff there Brian. I recommend a nice glass display cabinet for the antique stuff.

Yes indeed,..it's sounds very cool....might be a good idea to get it all appriased and then put a rider on your home owners insurance. I would deffinetely make a display of some sort and surround it with old and new photographs,..they'll become some of your most prized possessions!

Regards,

Mac

Hey Marke,...invite your dad and his new wife,..make a day and picnic out of it,...or better yet,...get your boys to ask "granpa"....he CAN'T turn them down!! LOL

I told my grandson that when I die I was leaving him all of my fishing equipment and he said he didn't want all my junk. I told my son to have another son.

Brian, send pics and descriptions in to the "what's it worth" page of Bassmaster magazine and they'll appraise it for you! Plus your name will be in Bassmaster! Cool.
