OK guys. I have been told by the wife that I can upgrade to glass next year.(What a woman) I have narrowed it down to two models. I know that the 898 does not have carpet on the decks. I would like to here from owners of both models as to the pros and cons vs the two.

Thanks

Check to see if the 898 has any wood in it. The 9-series doesn't.

Dennis - You can order the 898 WITH carpet if you like, of not, your choice!!! Me, i'd take the 898 w/out just cause I like to go bay fishing too!!! Good luck! Check the prices I think the 898 is cheaper!

that would be a tough choice for me. I like the 898 being a 20 foot boat, but I really like the 901 out of all the 9 series. i havn't been able to see a 898 in person, but if it is a lot like the 896, it will be impressive. might have to get inside one and compare the layouts.

I have seen the 898 up close and personal..... AWESOME!! I'd take it over the 901 any day of the week! Ken Neeley too a ride in one with Kevin VanDam last fall and said it drove like it was on rails!

I am under the impression that you can get it with carpeting.

me!

Don't forget that the 9series boats have a lifetime hull warranty and 898 will have the standard hull warranty.

I have been looking at one in St Louis. I'm thinking of get it with a 225 Merc. They come with carpet,or with snap in carpet or no carpet also on the dual console model the left console can be removed and put back in as need. Look it over close it has some trick points that I like. $28500.00 for the one with a 225, tandum trailer/w brakes, shipping, rigging and dual console. Good luck on your pick and catch the big one. Ken

Dennis,

you need to talk to Kenny Lively from this site. He just sold his 901 and ordered a 898. the 898 is more like the 896 you can fish it shallower and it will have a better top end. Also, you can get it with or with out carpet or, get a removeable carpet that snaps in....

If you get a chance, post a message for Kenny. He knows all about the 2 boats.

Good luck!

This message is For ken Lively. Is he the same one that was a carpenter? I personal like the 898 over the 901. I didn't think the 901 rides very well. And you can get the 898 with carpet on the decks and not the drivers area or all carpet or snap in carpet. I'm in the market for a new ride and I think the 898 is my choice.

Just a cotton pickin minute....the optional carpet so you can run in the bay? You saying that you would take a freshwater merc and drop it in the bay......bye, bye warranty.

TOXIC

9 series for one simple fact!! Lifetime Hull warranty. The only thing that I do not like about by 882 is the fact it does not have the lifetime Hull warranty. You would think Nitro would do that with this 882 and 898 boat since it is so popular with us Team tourney weekend Tourney folks.

How many of you actually expect to end up keeping the same boat for a "lifetime"?

Dennis,

I wish I could tell you something from first hand experience but my 898 is not due in for 9 more days. I have had a 901 and two 896's which is what the 898 is supposed to be modeled after. If it is remotely similar to th 896 then I will love it hands down over the 901. The 901 may ride better but I am not entirely convinced of that due to the extra length of the 898. The only advantage I see in the 9 series is the storage layout and the live well system, but the 898 does have an extra front storage that the 896 did not have and the rod boxes are way bigger than the 901's. As far as the warranty I have always tried to get a new boat every 2-3 years, so the length of warranty wasn't that important to me. The 10 year warranty for the 898 is a good one. I agree w/Scott we all want a new boat sooner or later who keeps one for a lifetime? Toxic has a good point, if I entended to go to salt water I would put a salt water series motor on it and a galvanized trailer. Mine will never see salt water. I liked the 901, but hated the dual console in it, too crowded. I loved the 896's and I think I will adore the 898 from what I have seen and heard. 898 hands down.

Dennis I ordered mine w/ everything I could put on it that the 901 had standard, hydro steering, jackplate, plus hot foot, 225 EFI, upgrade TM and graphs, tandem trailer and more and it was still cheaper than a 901 w/200. I don't think you will be disappointed w/ either rig. KENNY
