Sight un-seen the dealer says only $500.00 for my boat. It has over $500.00 worth of finders,$300.00 SS prop, new seats, gauges, carpet,I will part it out first.. I should be able to get that out of the 60HP Merc..

The dealer could care less if you had two $1500.00 GPS units

They are going out of a book that states the year of the boat and motor period!!! I know I have been through this myself. When I went to purchase my 882 I took my 700LX in for trade, I had just purchased it from this dealer a year and a half earlier for $10,500. He offered me 5K. Hell I had put $2000.00 worth of goodies on it. I sold it for $10,000 on my own and went to another dealer. They did me the same when I traded my tx17 in for a 640LX the time before offered me NOTTA for the tx. Sell it yourself and buy what you want with bargaining power!! The stuff about Nitro Dealers cannot deal is not true, I got 4k knocked off my 882 at the dealer.

Not a dealer, but I did stay at a holiday inn express once...

my guess is even on resale fo the traded in boat, the dealer doesn't get much for the extra goodies... it does help to move the boat, but a knowledgable buyer will only want to pay close to the book value for the boat/motor as well...

It truly is a pain when trying to trade in, and not feel "bent over"... I personally dont want to have the hassle of selling it myself (look how long it's taken Tox)...

On my last trade in, I got the dealer to throw in a number of freebies (black light installs, sonar installs, etc...) to help offset some of the things, but coming down on actual price was never an option.

We need some company with deep pockets to start a BoatMax used boat company like CarMax! It would provide cash for trade in boats whether you buy a newer/used boat from them. Sell used boats with 30 day warranties, 5 day money back guarantee, and a HUGE inventory of clean/used boats from ALL manufacturers and a lake out back to do test drives!!

You would still not get as much in trade as you would for selling outright, BUT if you owed the boat outright it would be MUCH easier and less hassle then negotiating the trade in value.

I'm dreaming of course...

I'd strip everything usable off the old boat, right down to the hull and outboard. THEN take the trade-in offered by the dealer. You could sell the "extras" on E-bay.

I thought about that Mo, I still have the old seats, factory console and stuff. Then sell all the new stuff..

FYI, I haven't really tried selling mine except for here. When certain things happen I will get agressive and move it. No boat sells itself and I have not pushed it anywhere but here to give anybody from the site first dibbs. Who knows, maybe I will find it just as hard to sell when I really put some effort into it but I doubt it. My partner had a guy walk up to him at a gas station and ask him how much he wanted for his boat (nothing to even indicate it was for sale). He told him a price (and knowing him it was high) and the guy came over the next day with a certif. check for it. Lucky?
