I'm new to this board. I actually just ran across it trying to do some research on the Nitro 882. Hopefully someone can provide some insight.....

I've been looking at a new Triton Aluminum (186 magnum). Recently, I ran across someone that has a 2000 882 for sale at a good price and the boat is in extremely good condition. It's a great looking boat, I just can't decide between aluminum and this 882.

Now, I am torn between which direction to go. Any pros/cons or insight would be great.

thanks!

Steve-Alot has to do with the water you fish and the price you are willing to pay.The big high horsepower rigs sure do look nice, but do you really need that much boat? The smaller aluminum boats are cheaper to run, but maybe too small for the big water?Do you want a new warranteed boat? Or willing to take a chance on a used one and go at it alone?I'm sure there will be alot of posts telling you which boat to buy, mainly because thats what kind of boat they have, and think everybody else should also, but YOU are the only one that is paying for it.I would sit in each one and make engine noises and just buy the one I liked best.Good luck.I wish I had a problem like yours.

All I can say, is that I have a 2000 NX882 w/ EFI 150 and I love it!!!

How is the one your looking at rigged?

Whats the asking price?

I just like the look and the ride of a glass boat.

I'll echo Steves thoughts but also just do a search on nitro 882 on this board and you'll find all kinds of information good and bad. Do the same thing for aluminum. If you want do one for Avalanche and you'll see a number of comments on this aluminum boat. Just click search at the top and type. Good Luck

Steve, I had a tracker PT175 aluminum boat for 5 years and now have a 2002 882DC. There is no comparison in comfort and fishability. The aluminum boat was great but tended to rock pretty badly when passing wakes and waves would hit me while standing up to fish. the 882 is much more steady(heavy) and much less prone to being rocked or blown by the wind. It would be good if you could test drive both to see how each fit your own style of fishing. Good luck with your decision

i think twopar hit the nail on the head as far as the differences in alum vs glass. of note, the alum allows you to have less hp. when i was looking at boats i was looking for a tracker boat. found an alum lowe at the price i wanted. the guy had another boat in his garage and i asked about it. he said it was for sale too. i said great, i want to test drive BOTH of them. he said that if i rode in the glass boat, that i wouldn't buy the alum boat. i didn't believe him, but he was right, as far as i was concerned. i still like the alum boats a lot, but glad i spent a little more and got the boat i did (lx700 17' nitro). Take a ride in both and you will know what is right for you like Steve Rizza wrote. I think the 882 is a great boat and if in good condition, i would be proud to own one. also of note, the 882 probably has a lot more useable storage.

Triton makes a great boat, but I have never ridden in their tin rigs. What I can say about the 882 from a couple I have ridden in is that for an average 18 footer, they are very stable, extremely fast, and have lots of storage. The ride is great for an 18 footer and you won't get that from a tin boat. If you run water that is at all rough, I would recommend the 882.

Thanks for all the responses! I think I will take your advice and ride/compare both of them......thanks again!

HA!! We got another one. Good job Rob. Looks like all we have to do is get them to ride in both...Glass Rulz... Now the Avalanche is a bit harder.

I have a chance at winning a Triton 175 w/90 Johnson on the back come April 27th. A local Tourney held here at Caeser's Creek lake here in Ohio. Even if I don't win...I still have a chance at the boat...COOL!I like those new Tritons...looked good at the boat show.
