I am looking at buying a new bass boat and have been looking at the Nitro 882 and the 898 but can't make up my mind. I am thinking of going with the 150XR6 regardless of model. I usually fish a local lake 2-3 times per week that is pretty small and the old boat I have now works well on it. However, a couple times a year I go to Lake Fork and 3 or 4 times per year to other lakes that are pretty good size and my little boat just isn't enough for them. Any recommendations or suggestions?

150 would be a bit small for the 898 as it is a 20' boat. I would go to the 200 if you get that model for hole shot and top end. Also, the 898 will ride much better with the extra 2 feet. It doesn't sound like a whole lot more boat, but once you sit in each, you immediately notice the difference. You will save some gas with a 150 and the 882 though. It's a personal decision, but I would take the 898. Whatever you pick be sure to post some pics.

It's of my opinion that you get the maxium horsepower rated for the boat if you can afford it. It's nice to have the ponies back there if you need them.

Just my opinion, but looking at the specs for both boats, the 150 will be fine on the 882, but I'd spend the extra green to upgrade to the 200 on the 898. My gut feeling is that the 150 (the minimum h.p. offered on that model) will be anemic on the 898.

Again, just an opinion.

I'll put up another option.

Buy Mac's boat (it was still for sale recently). Take a look at the Swap and Sell board.

Excellent point. You won't find a better deal for $19k. And it has a new powerhead, extra TM (NIB) and is loaded. I would take it if I could get mine sold! And it has the updated opti on it, so you get max speed and fuel. By updated, I mean, Merc has retro'd the bad boy. Right Mac?

Yes,....my boat (901 CDX) is still available for $19k......it has a 200 Opti (brand new power head...it'll do 70 mph GPS now) a 76lb Tour Edition TM, and I'll throw in another brand new TM as a spare,...3 batteries and a built in charger....Lowrance LMS160 sonar/GPS on the console,...a 1240A in-dash flasher and a X-85 on the bow,.......2 covers (the pro team cover is still in the box...the boat is garage stored)..tandem axle trailer w/spare tire,...cd player, hot foot, column mounted Trim/tilt lever,....and I'll also throw in a few rod/reel combo's!! I need to move this boat!! It won't last long at $19g's and it's in excellent shape!! pix in my library!! It's a heck of a lot of boat for the same price you'll pay for a new 882 with a 150.....worth some thought!

My last boat wasa 17 1/2' Nitro 180. Last summer, when I was thinking about a new boat, my mind was running along the lines of an 882 because I thought that anything bigger would just be too much boat.....

Then I cam across a used 20' Nitro 2000 with a 200 horse Merc..... I bought it and couldn't be happier - unless it came with a new Opti instead of the gas guzzling 1994 carbed powerplant.

The extra size is great to have! More storage. More deck space. Fishing platform is more stable in the summer when the lake is churned up. More everything and definately not too much boat!

me!
