Anybody own a 04' 185 with a 115 on it...just curious as to what speed and fuel economy I can compare it with a 90. Might want to upgrade soon...I feel the need for speed without killin' my budget:)

I don't know if this is true or not but I have heard that for every 25hp increase you will gain 3-5 mph on your top end....I don't really know if that is true but that is what somebody told me once. I am sure somebody on the board will be able to verify my statment as being true or false.

Jim that sounds about correct, when trying to decide over the 115 or 125 for my NX750 the Tracker folks showed me numbers on both motors on that boat and it was only a few mph difference.

I'd be willin' to bet a man could achieve 55 with the right prop. I can run 46 to 47 with my 90 and an SS prop:)

Also...pay no attention to those numbers they use...there a lot of varailbles they are not using in those figures.

Tee - Latest B&WB mag has an Xpress 17 with a 115 Opti hitting 46.2 and a Triton 176 Magnum with a 115 carb'd Yamaha hitting 50.3mph. So i'd say mid-50's would sound right! I was SHOCKED that the Triton was faster then the Xpress!

I'm surprised PMGoff hasen't chimed in, wonder if he's rigged a 115 to the 185 yet??

Trep- I have a 17ft Xpress with a 90 Yamaha that does 48-50mph depending on conditions.....I wonder what hull of the Xpress where they using.....

Jimbob - it was a 2004 x-17 Xtreme Hyper Lift hull, with the Merc 115 opti. The article said "it was set up for maximum performance with just a drier in it, not a full fishing load." but, they did say for their runs they had a 20 inch prop and 500+ load of 2folks and gear (tackle and cameras). They did go on to say with one person, no gear and an empty livewell they hit the low 50s.

Tee - living proof right here that the 115 Opti can push you into the mid 50's!

Now THAT WOULD be sweet man! I'm gonna be lookin' into stats to see what I can find.

If they would make the beam about 90" would be even better. I know that sounds like a lot but, it's not. The sides on the newer hulls have such a draft that even a 84" beam doesn't have 60" across the VERY back...which in turn hurts stability. Another 10" across the bottom would help dramatically. My 94 Pro Team actually had a wider bottom with a narrow beam (74") but, was more stable in the water.

With me and another average weight fellow is no problem but, can be with a heavier individual.

AND get rid of the rest of the wood in the decks and be in line with other boat manufacturers that quit usin' it YEARS ago:)

BTW Trep...I think a 20 pitch on a 115 is small. I'm runnin' a 13"x 21 Pitch SS on my 90. If he'd used a 22 Laser..he'd ran a whole lot faster:)

Trep I wonder why the article says it was rigged for max performance....the X-17 can handle a 130hp motor....no wonder the Trition was faster....I am guessing they ran both of them with 115 because the Triton could not support a 130HP rating.

Jimbob - there were 2 seperate articles one on the Yamaha getting souped up (they used the Triton for that) and eventualy got 55+ with a jack plate and seriously hot-rodded mods! The X-17 was rigged by Xpress at I think a vendor show, maybe because the Opti's are heavier (I think) then the carb'd motors it wouldn't handle a 130 opti (which I don't think they make)??

Thanks Trep for clearing that up....how long has Triton been making tin boats.....I was looking at them yesterday and they seem to have a pretty good selection of hulls to choose from....

Ya' make me a good deal on a 04' with a 115 there Pat?

What range we lookin' at? And I'm sure you'd give me TOP DOLLAR for my shiny 02'....eh?

BTW Jimbob...The Tritons are nice Tin rigs but, I looked at at a lot and think they are overpriced for tin. Thesedays there's a lot of different brands that are just as good AND cheaper. I'd look at Express before I'd consider Triton. I've looked at ALL of them closely...and was not impressed..for tin that is:)

Tee

Well I currently have an Xpress and I think when I upgrade it will be to another Xpress...they are a true proformance boat on a tin budget.....I have had Zero complaints or problems with my xpress...

I come just a hair(thin one at that) at buying Express instead of my current rig and look back and wonder. I was lookin at the X60 w/125 on it but, wouldn't budge on price and definitely not impressed with their trailers. But, as always was impressed with the boat. Express builds bullet-proof tin. I see that their 19 ft. and over rigs are using 1/8" aluminum. Tank material:)

Well the dealer I bought mine from was a pleasure to deal with he knocked like 2 grand off the rig and threw in a galv. trailer. When I was looking it was between the Tracker and the Xpress....I think both make good boats....

I need a job back in the manufacturing arena....I'd could surely give them some ideas for improvement on the Trackers. Not knockin'them too bad since I own one but, there sure a lot of people out there that do. Mainly Customer Service. Any boat will eventually have problems...but, it's how it's taken care of that determines whether someone like me will make another purchase and until there are some BIG improvements...I won't:(

Why is that? I just checked the Tracker web and it shows a diff of $845 with a 90 and that's a $1,000 savings on the TV18 and $700 on the 185.

I was wondering what the 185 price with the 115 was since they don't have it on the site...go figure...they rate it for a 115. Doesn't make since unless there's more of a manufacturing procedure with the 185. I agree the TV18 is a better boat...I almost got one but, that was before the power up deal. WEIRD:)
