115 OPTIMAX OIL DIPSTICK

Has anyone had this happen. The dipstick for the oil tank broke in half. I guess the repeated times of checking the oil caused it to wear in the middle and break. The tank has a sharp bend at the top. I am not so worried about the dip stick being broke but I am concerned about the half that is still in the tank. There is no way to reach in and get it the tank has a tight bend. I am calling Mercury dealer tomorrow to see if this is covered by warrany. The motor is a year old.

Yep, mine lasted 4 months and broke off then fell in, I just left it in there, it's not the right shape or size block the flow imo and mines now 2 years old. I figured it was just a crap design with inflexable plastic.

use a magnet stick to get it out if you don't want it in there

Thanks. But the dang thing is all plastic and you can't see it thru the tank. I guess leaving it in there is the best option.
