What's the purpose

Why is there a large hose going from the bottom of my boat behind the pad to a large vent on the back of the boat?

I think BMCD on Bass Boat Central answered that one time, I wondered as well. I think it has something to do with venting air off of the step. I may be dead wrong, if so I hope I am corrected!1

If I am correct on what you are asking, that is a ventilation system (natura/passive) designed to let air enter or exit using wind power or the boat

That is a step vent that is designed to keep that area from creating suction on takeoff.

Jim B is correct. Prior to the vent being installed there was vacuum created in the step that caused LONG hole shot times.
