Hey guys, I was out on the lake yesterday and had a strange occurrence with my 90 yamaha.

We were going full throttle and then lost all power all of sudden and can't recall if the motor actually turned off or not on it's own. It felt like we lost the prop to be honest. I trimmed the motor up and everything looked fine, put it back in the water and cranked it and ran fine the rest of the day.

Any ideas? Only thing I can think of is maybe there was some water in the fuel or something.

If it shut off suddenly, I would suspect a short to ground of the ignition system. If one spark failed it would still run but very rough and less power. If it sputtered then quit, I would suspect fuel. Could be vibration induced.

If the engine didn't cut off on it's own, I would guess you picked up some trash causing the prop to cavitate. A small twig will make you loose propulsion.
