Rubber skirting material

I have been buying the rubber ribbon skirting material for jigs and such and spend way too much time separating the strands. Other than the occasional "talking my wife into pulling them apart for me" is there and easy way? And yeah, I tried the dogs comb.

Hey what i do is i have 2 vises one for tying then the other i put non skid tape on the vise and i put the top half rubber in tighten up pull real hard then take scissors then cut along the vise. Then i do bottom half
