1600 engineers will be introduced to "change" this week by getting their walking papers...and it's only the beginning. More to follow as the year goes on! You won't believe this....they have men in black suits walking around with ear pieces getting people and taking them to conf. rooms with windows that are covered up. You are given a plastic garbage bag to pack your stuff in and then you are escorted out of the bldg, without even a goodbye kiss.....where's the LOVE people????



This is CHANGE you can believe in!!,......one GLAD bag at a time!!:angry::(



Ohwell...they already went thru Manufacturing where I work, a month ago...now they're getting Engineering and Purchasing. 1600 is all the papers are reporting....it will be 2x that number by the time it's over....and, we were told there will be "more" before the year is over.
 
saw that on money.com this AM Mac, thoughts went out to you. Hang in with the last bit of fingernails you have left.
 
Pond,...hopefully India will step up first and say, "STOP!! We can't take anymore work!"....it will take something like that to save my job eventually!!:huh:



But who am I kidding,...the odds of Mini getting married are better than my odds of retiring from this place with 26 yrs in already!!!!:eek::unsure:

By the time this is all over,....GM will consist of 1 CEO...1 President...300-1000 VP's,..2500 Directors,...............and me. And I will have to do all of their chit!

Mike,...I've heard that too, but their market is growing so fast it's unreal...and those vehicles we build over there stay over there....they aren't sent back here. They don't have the OSHA, UAW, NHTSA, CAFE, EPA, Teamsters, Contractor, Electrical and Pipefitter Unions, etc and the new Obama regulations to deal with over there either. An auto company can build, tool, man, and operate an entire production facility over there for the price we pay JUST to tool one here. It's insanely cheap over there. It doesn't create or save any jobs over here,...but that's part of doing business over there. Oh,..and BTW,..GM won't be using any bailout money to build over there...that's all coming from the chinese gov't and china auto sales revenue.

So i pay about $345 a month now for my 2002 chevy avalanche, If i can get a new one for around the same payment, i would trade it in asap. I have to check the local dealers i guess. I havent for a while. I figure the deals are good now a days.
 
I expect BHO and others to make their third visit to the area soon.. newest unemployment figures (grossly understated IMO) show the two adjecent counties at 18.3% and 18.9%. Now, on friday, news comes out that the "Elders" of the Amish communities there are ok'ing their workers apply for unemployment claims (as they made up a large portion of the cabinet and woodworkers in the RV industries). Forecast is for April to approach or exceed 25%.



I cant blame them.. they worked, they paid taxes, their community takes care of their own but they are due the 26 weeks or whatever like anyone else.

Mac I was told they aren't building a 500++++HP Z-28 In the camero and NO A buyer disc.Really sad how things are going..Pontiac Is selling but I still believe they will be gone before long,Maybe make mine worth something..I was out looking this morning at cars, had this one 6 months It's all used up..Need something fast like a new Roush Mustang,Our Buick pontiac dealer just started a ford dealership here...got some goodies there shelby,saleen,,all the toys there.....Hope you keep your job Mac..I buy more new than most people except Teri and she gets all the weird stuff,Finally she did get a real truck...HA HA

Having been through this twice in the last 5 years, I can tell you that they get you out the door and off the computer systems rather quickly.



At Wachovia, I had a 'sticky note' taped to my monitor that said come to room XXX on the 12th floor for an important meeting at 10:00AM. The firing squad (PUN INTENDED!) was sitting in there with all our managers and a stack of plain envelopes.



At EDS, since I was 'remote', I lost connectivity directly, by 2:00PM in the afternoon. Got a box sent to me via FedEx and told to pack up my laptop and send it back.



It's the way business is done now.

We're going to see a lot of stuff no longer being built in a few more mos.....but who knows...if/when things get going again, they can always bring stuff back, but albeit in a very limited quantity and life cycle. It all depends on gas prices and consumer demand.
 
It's just a matter of time before I get it. Never been fired or let go before. It's really going to suck. I keep thinking "It won't happen to me." but I know I am first in our group to go. Every Thursday could be my last.

They don't trust their employees, as soon as their terminated they walk you out the door. Been there done that. But it is nice to be retired and work part time for Bass Pro. Hang in there Mac.
 
that's tough Mac...not knowing what's next is almost as bad as knowing your the odd one out?!?!?



Not a very gracefull way of terminating employment. A buddy of mine would fly to Toronto every month for a company meeting. One time on the flight there all of the reps were sitting toghether, a company lawyer gets up and gives them all their termination papers and a return plane ticket, and instructs them to find a way home from the airport as their company cars were all being picked up ~harsh.

I hear ya Mac. Guv Patterson is threatening to lay off over 1,000 CO's in NY. I should be safe, but I might be right on the bubble.

This guy is a real Obama wannabe. First we can't make the old budget, then he implements the one time largest budget increase in NY HISTORY.....11 billion. So now we really, really, REALLY can't make budget! Plus when he took office, he created over a half dozen jobs that pay at least 100k a yr! Then he gave all his boys an AVERAGE of a 16% salary increase, but wants us to take nothing for the last 4 yrs without a contract and wants our civilians to give back their pint sized raises and the Staties to give their's back too! This guy has a big brass set....no brain, but a big brass set. He has also ticked off the teacher's union and the nurses unions! He's pretty much alienated the entire middle class of NY (if that even exists anymore) which is 75% of his tax base and every major lobbying union in NY. He won't get elected, but like his "change" focused president, by the time we replace them....the damage will be done.





I hope all who voted for these clowns are happy with their "change". Now excuse me...I believe secret service is knocking at the door to take me away to some "re-education" camp. :(
 
Mac - That is tough, i remember being with a software company in Houston when they did the same thing, HR called you into a conf room, while you were gone security brought 1 box to your office, they escorted you back to your office, you packed 1 box, security walked you out the door, and they had you come back 10am that Saturday to pack up all your stuff while you were being watched.

Today is the first day they hit our bldg,...it's gonna suck!:angry: They started in a couple others sites y'day.....today and tomorrow will be my bldg. Haven't seen any death squad dudes walking around yet, but the local news van is across the street and i saw some dudes in the lobby this a.m. that look like they might be with the "transition" company that's offering services to the ones who get tapped!:huh:



I'll keep ya'll posted thruout the day!! Gotta hunker down in my bunker....adios!!

I'm really sorry Mac!:( With the kind of loyalty they're showing it could very well be who I worked for for over 30 years. But "remember to be loyal" and "loyalty is everything"

and "we remember and recompense loyalty from our workers." Three weeks after my spinal fusion surgery, Nancy went to the local Giant Pharmacy to fill two prescriptions. When they were filled and Nancy presented our BlueCross/BlueShield card, the girl informed her we didn't have insurance any longer. Loyalty? I guess they thought I was faking an injury when I had less than four months to go till I had full retirement? We finally had to get our Senator, the Hon. Paul Sarbanes into it and he straightened it all out. Now I'm loyal to him and the U.S.P.S. can KMA.. Sorry for being all over the place with this Mac but everything I read here mad me angry. Nancy and I will saying prayers for you and sending best wishes.

Thanks all........I'm still here...people are droppin' like flies all over the place tho...they're "supposed" to hit our floor again today, (different departments than mine) so I'm sure I'll see a bunch of people cleaning out desks, etc. This is NOT fun...but it's critical to GM's survival, and I NEED this job,...just like they all do too,..but I have mixed feelings about this whole mess. I see GOOD workers getting tapped , while slackers seem to survive cut after cut....I'd like to see more thought put into their selections, and a lot more deserving people get the boot,..but, it is what it is,...so I'll just stay planted in my seat and try not to let it affect me to much....can't do squat about it anyway.

its a double whammy Mac, when the slackers end up being blessed to stay. The work doesnt go away, just less people to do it. And when some of them are not the best possible peoples, well, you know!

 
OMG,..this is horrible!! And we haven't even gotten into the NEW CEO's cuts yet.....these are still from Wagoner's plan!! I've never seen so many bummed out/crying/upset/redfaced people in one place in my life, I've been to funerals that weren't this bad!



One guy's wife had a baby in Feb,....seeya..he's gone. Another had 26 yrs in....gone. Whole dept's leveled!! Security walking some people to the door,...other's all the way to their cars 'cuz they're so vocal and beligerant....security checking peoples bag and lunch coolers (for weapon's i suppose)........... This is brutal. :(:(:eek:

Pretty good article this week on Money.com about Kokomo Indiana. I have passed through the town a lot in my years.. Used to be some GM there, then went to Delco, then delco split from GM if I recall.. LOTS of Chrysler corp there now.



Net of the whole story is a fairly large town will likely die soon, if things dont somehow turn.
 
...it's only just beginning too..........and we've got Senators in Congress who are so clueless they stand up and say,.."Screw the BIG 3,...Let'em fail!"



Oh wait,..my bad.....they're from the states with the import plants in'em!!:angry:



I can't say anything more than I've already said,..but let it be clear...if the BIG 3 go down.....the USA goes down!! Period!!!

Hey,...here's an idea for the corporate hatchet folks,....How bout getting rid of the ENTIRE COMMUNICATIONS Dept, since they are so fulla LEAKS they couldn't possibly be worth saving!!! Swiss cheese would make a better boat!!:angry:
