I'm hoping someone out there can help me save some money. I'm looking to upgrade my current 46lbs thrust motor to 70lbs. I talked to a guy at a local trolling motor shop and he asked me to measure the length of the motor housing and said he can probably do it for $175 (parts and labor).

I'm sure I can find the parts cheaper online and do the conversion myself. I'm pretty mechanical but haven't ever torn into a trolling motor before.

I know what he wants me to measure, so how do I tell if I can convert this thing myself and how do I know what parts to buy? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Whew....good thing this isn't what I thought it was....I was all ready to recommend Viagra:lol::lol:

As for your TM, I would just bite the bullet and go get a new unit. Are you going from 12 to 24? I dunno, to me just seems like putting that $$ out and then having no warranty or anything would not be my preference.

Unless you have worked on TM's or electrical motors in the past, I'd leave that to the pros. And this is coming from me - a guy who likes to do ALL of his own work / installs.

All the best,

Glenn

Just to echo the above. A TM is waaay beyond my desire to rebuild and expect to work. Good luck! ;)
