Hot Foot Throttle Cable

I have a T&H Marine top load Foot throttle I want to install in my 2009 Nitro X-5 w/ Merc 115 Opti.My question is how much longer of a cable do I need than the one that is in the boat? I've been told 2 to 3 feet longer.Should I try to measure the one that is in there and add extra or maybe one of you fine gentleman on this site may be able to help me out on length of cable and where to order. Thanks ahead of time.

I'm in the process of installing a hot foot throttle on my Z-7. I measured the length of my current cable as it was installed on my hand control and added 3'. UPS just delivered the cable and it appears it's going to work (with a little excess). I ordered my cable through Marine Parts Express. Hope that helps.
