I have a hummingbird platinum ID that is working and is on the driver console which the wiring lead to the back of transom...but I noticed its missing the sonar...does anyone know where I can go purchased a sonar for this old fish finder...and do I need a transducer with it...

Also the engines a mercury 2 stroke oil injected 60hp...and I wanted to change the orig. prop to a 4 blade stainless steel prop...does anyone know what size and etc...to go buy at or any ideas what it is...

Not sure what you mean by "missing the sonar". Is there a transducer mounted in the bilge or on the transom?

What boat? What RPMs at WOT? How is the holeshot? I'm not an expert, but someone will need more info to help ya.

SOund Navigation And Ranging isn't a thing, it's a process that fish finders (sonar units) use to see underwater. Inside the transducer, there's a crystal that converts an electrical impulse into a sound impulse that's sent to the bottom in a cone shape (like an upside down ice cream cone.) When that sound wave or "echo" hits an object it's bounced back up to the transducer and converted back into an electrical impulse that shows up on your screen as a fish, bottom, etc. I may not have used the correct terminology for this process but I hope this helps.

Thanks for the above help...now is a sonar and transducer the same or different...sorry this is all new to me.

A fish finder is sometimes called a sonar unit. Think of it this way, music is what a guitar does and sonar is what a fish finder does. A simple fish finder only has two connections on the back of it. One is for a cable that connects the fish finder to a power source (battery) and the other is where you plug the transducer cable into the fish finder. The transducer mounts on the transom below the water line and care has to be taken to insure bubbles from your prop don't interfere with it. It has to remain in the water to work...below the bottom of the boat. Here's a pic of two transducers mounted on the transom of a boat. Notice the transducer cable is built into or attached to the transducer. It's a long cable that's routed neatly to the back of the fish finder where it's plugged in. I hope I'm not making things more confusing for you.

Then what is this...<a href="http://s178.beta.photobucket.com/user/lil_jessyaj23/media/image-8_zps29a4cbf1.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w262/lil_jessyaj23/image-8_zps29a4cbf1.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo image-8_zps29a4cbf1.jpg"/></a>

Are these both transducer or is it the circle transducer is the old type and the sharper one is the up to date one...

They do look like transducers to me but I can't be sure. I know some guys mount 2 or 3 fishfinders on their boats and some even mount them on on their trolling motors facing forward so they can see what's in front of them. That may be the case on your boat? I think you should follow the cables from the transducers to the opposite ends and see if there's a plug that fits into your fishfinder. Be gentle though, don't force the plug or you could break it. Good Luck.

The transducer on the side of the motor is normally part of a Side Finder type of sonar unit like the old Bottomline units had. The brand of that transducer is either Bottomline or Humminbird.

The Side Finder display has a sideways V shape that will show distance to any fish within its coverage.

The transducer on the bottom of the motor is either a Lowrance or Eagle transom style that is adapted for mounting on the trolling motor.

That's what in saying too...this is why I'm so lost...if it really needs both of these equipment to operate a fish finder
