All the boats that I rode had the ah-OOG-ah, not the squeal that the new ones use. I did find a site that had all the alarms, old to new with preview of sound.

When I sound the horn on my boat it is always 3 blast (Surface, Surface, Surface) not 2 blast (Dive, Dive).

There is a Gov. site that has all the submarine alarms, if I run across it again, I will post it.

We could always dive deeper and come up drier.

I am going to brag a bit, let your son know that before I was COB, the boat I was on I was the ships Diving Office (letter signed by CO, approved by Sqd. and Sublant), the QA Officer for all systems except nuc, training a ADiv LCPO and a DCA., and I covered the 3M system. When I retired I was SubLant Force Aux., Sqd 6 Commodore wanted me to apply for Sqd. 6 Command Master Chief instead of retiring.
