    Lower Unit Replacement

Charles, Thanks for the info. I will check it out. I am a BBC member too so thanks for the tip on the savings. BTW. Saw that you are a Veteran and Retired Police Officer. I have both in my family - Thank you for your service!

    Lower Unit Replacement

I have been blowing up the shift cam in my lower unit for the past 2 seasons (gone through 4 of them - see pic) and after this last one I had a different mechanic take a look to see what the heck is going on. He says that I need an entire new gear set and his advice is to get a used lower and...

    Been A While

Hi all, My last posts were on the old site. So yeah, it's been awhile! Too long I must admit because this site is such a great resource. Having a lower unit issue now. Starting a thread in "Motors and Props." Take a peak and share your advice. Mike

    Z7 Prop

I found the gear ratio for your lower unit. I found 1.87:1. That means the engine needs to turn 1.87 times to equal one revolution of prop shaft. Based on that ratio your 24p turning at 5300 engine RPM should have a top speed of 64.4 mph (this does not take into effect prop slip...

    Z7 Prop

Here is a link to a prop 101 from a prop shop near me. It has some great insight. I agree with you concern over a loss of top end by going to a 22p, but perhaps the increase in RPM will actually cause it to increase. The 22p will travel through the water at 22 inches per revolution and will...

    Z7 Prop

Curious to know what the suggested WOT RPM limit is for that motor? It should say on the SN# tag or in the manual. Prop the boat to hit that number and not go over. If you are short of it the engine is not fully unloading. If you are right on it already then I would not mess around with...

Ordered a Minn Kota MK 345 PC

I have it. Got it last year. It is awesome. The various charge indication colors make it easy to see where the charging stage is at. I like to Frog, so I am fishing in the slop quite a bit. Fished a tournament on July 6th and after a full day of pre-fishing and a deep drain on my...

    1994 170TF Performance

Yeah. I was looking at Nitro site the other night too after making my post to you! The new Z boats are nice! How does your prop look? Mine is pretty beat up from a lot of river fishing and shallow water takeoffs....certainly not ideal for a boat with a slow hole shot. I think that a fresh...

    1994 170TF Performance

Forgot to ask about how your hole shot is with a full load, gas, and wells...how is it? Same issues as me?

    1994 170TF Performance

I have a 1996 170 TF with a 125 Merc - Laser II 22 pitch prop. Not sure on my pad measurement. I get 46-48 mpg with a full Tank, full wells, 2 guys, and a tournament load. Hole shot really gets slow under those conditions as well. Usually my partner needs to lay on the front deck to get it...

    runners

I am pretty sure that it is recommended to use non-treated wood for the bunks because the chemicals used in treated lumber still corrode and eat stainless steel staples. Mike

    Aerator Help

Alvin, I own the same boat. Mine has a 12 Inch pipe that fits into the drain hole in the bottom of the driver side live well compartment. When you are fishing you will need to remember to turn your pump on frequently so that fresh, oxygen rich water is pumping in the well and forcing the...

It is a piece of cake to change btw.

    impeller

3-years is what the mechanic up here in Minneapolis reccomends. Had mine go out while on the river and 22 miles from the ramp. Tough lesson to learn in the first year of owning my first oat! I'll make sure to change that bad boy as reccomended.

    trolling motor

I snapped mine this spring. Replaced it with a 1/16 or 3/32 vinyl coated cable that I got from Home Depot. It will never break again! I will upload a few pics and post them tonight.

    No Easy Day

It is not surprising that the White House controlled and shaped this story from the beginning. After all, it may be Obama's crowning achievement. He absolutely wanted to make sure the public got a story that made him look awesome. According to Obama anything negative that has happened in...

1996 Nitro 170 TF Wire connections on battery

Larry, I have the same model with a 125 Merc. I love it! I am not sure that I can help you with the alarm, but I may have some insight into the batteries. Do you have 3-batteries or two? Also, you refer to the 5 wires as 2 being the main cables - these as Toxic states are the wires for the...

Engine rattle at WOT - Found a Bolt

Bob B. and members, I was able to run around the lake this morning with the cowling off and did not hear anything other than a well tuned 125!! However, I did find the source of the rattle. A bolt in laying loose in the base/pan of the power head. This could be a bolt that got dropped...
